A compressor is a mechanical device used to compress air or other gases to pressures higher than the atmospheric pressure. This compressed air or gas is then used to power various tools and machinery in different applications such as automotives, chemical and petrochemical, textile, food, energy, healthcare and glass.
Compressors operate by elevating gas pressure, typically atmospheric air, through volumetric compression. During this operation, mechanical work transforms into stored potential energy within the pressurized medium. The fundamental process involves drawing in surrounding air and confining it within a reduced chamber space, thereby raising its pressure level. The resulting high-pressure gas becomes available for various applications, including tool operation, equipment functionality, or reservoir storage for future deployment.
The compressor P&ID symbol is a graphical representation of the equipment, providing an easy means of checking on its location within a system without requiring a physical inspection.
Depending on the type of compressor, it may be a circle or a rectangle with various attachments.
Drawing a complicated compressor symbol in P&ID can be tiresome. So why go through the hassle when you can just use Capital X Panel Designer’s library of pre-made symbols! Once you find the symbol for the compressor you need, just drag and drop it into your schematic drawing and watch your productivity skyrocket.
